Therapy for Adolescents and Teens

Getting older can be overwhelming. Adolescence and the teenage years are full of rapid emotional, social, and developmental changes, and many young people find themselves feeling misunderstood, pressured, or unsure of who they are becoming. Therapy can offer a supportive space where teens feel heard, respected, and encouraged to explore their experiences without judgment.

Having a trusted ally or cheerleader in their corner can make all the difference in a young person’s life. In therapy, I strive to be that steady, supportive presence—someone who listens closely, validates their struggles, and helps them recognize their own strengths.

What Therapy Looks Like for Adolescents & Teens

Therapy for adolescents and teens is collaborative and tailored to each individual. Sessions are designed to meet teens where they are emotionally and developmentally, while honoring their growing need for autonomy, privacy, and independence. I approach my work with empathy, curiosity, and respect, creating a space where teens can openly express themselves, explore their identity, and develop healthy coping skills.

Depending on your teen’s needs, therapy may focus on:

  • Understanding emotions and internal experiences

  • Developing effective communication skills

  • Building confidence and self-esteem

  • Managing stress, anxiety, and overwhelm

  • Strengthening relationships with peers and family

Forming Identity

Adolescence is a critical time for identity development. Teens may question who they are, where they belong, and what matters most to them. My approach as a therapist working with teens is to provide a safe environment for self-exploration, helping teens better understand their values, beliefs, emotions, and sense of self—without pressure to have it all figured out.

Navigating Friendships & Changing Dynamics

Friendships during adolescence can be intense, complex, and constantly shifting. Teens may struggle with peer pressure, conflict, rejection, or feeling left out. Therapy can help teens make sense of social dynamics, set healthy boundaries, build assertive communication skills, and navigate relationships in ways that feel authentic and supportive.

Academic Pressure & Burnout

Academic expectations can feel relentless, leading to stress, anxiety, burnout, and self-doubt. Therapy can help support teens in managing performance pressure, perfectionism, and fear of failure while fostering balance, resilience, and self-compassion. The focus is not just on achievement, but on emotional well-being and sustainable success.
